Tracking Print

Is print dead? Newspapers definitely (except Sunday and local weekly).  Magazines continue to live.  C3 Metrics measures print via a unique URL, subdomain, or unique domain name which is then tracked with a C3 tag.

Compliance on unique URL's is not exact as the majority of people will just type the brand name into a search engine or go to the main URL.  The Unique URL is utilized as a proxy from which to gross up the numbers.

C3 recommends either running several market tests to compare conversion and visit ratio to the unique URL vs. the main URL in specific market to create your own multiplier or use our standard of 6.2X.

After that multiplier is applied, the advertiser gets the benefit of C3's attribution for a vehicle that is nearly impossible to measure.  The cost of that print ad is applied just like the cost of a paid search term, or display tactic--and you get an attributed ROAS number or an attributed CPA number.
What's next?
You optimize your print buys just like any other media.  Reducing the size of some ads to come into your allowable CPA, expanding beyond C & D counties of the publication to scale further.  One client went from  spending $80k per month unprofitably to spending more than $200k per month very profitably.
The old can become new with attribution.
By utilizing a GoDaddy domain for a print URL, marketing can easily bypass IT and get print tracking live within 15 minutes.
